Expand Your Horizons

Chicago walking tours for people who like their history weird, facts unsanitized, and stories rooted in real life.

We’re not here to glorify the handful of rich white men who slapped their names on buildings—we’re here for the folks who actually built this city: laborers, immigrants, artists, activists, and everyday Chicagoans whose voices deserve the spotlight. Come for the wild facts and dark corners of history, stay for the laughs, the surprises, and the joy of seeing South Loop through fresh eyes (and comfortable shoes).

What makes an EYF Adventure?

Smart, Funny, and Deeply Human

These tours are like walking with your funniest history-obsessed friend—who also did way too much research. You’ll laugh, you’ll gasp, you might even get goosebumps (and not just from the wind).

Rooted in Chicago’s Full, Diverse History

We intentionally center the stories of immigrants, laborers, women, artists, and communities of color—not just the folks whose names are carved in stone. Our routes are shaped by people power, not donor plaques.

Made for Curious Walkers, Not Just Tourists

Whether you're a visitor, a local, or someone who's lived here forever and never stopped wondering how it all came to be—our tours are built for you. No stiff scripts. No dry facts. Just real stories told with heart, humor, and a whole lot of sidewalk.

Interactive, Conversational, and Never One-Sided

This isn’t a history lecture on the sidewalk. You’ll ask questions, share thoughts, and be part of the experience. We create space for curiosity and connection—so every tour is a little different, just like every group that joins.

Hey There! It’s Me, Katie

Expand Your Horizons was inspired by my Great Aunt Joanie—a sharp, fearless woman who believed deeply in one thing: you should see everything this world has to offer. Her advice? “Expand your horizons.”

So I did.

As a lifelong history nerd, I’ve always been obsessed with the stories we don’t hear enough— the ones that get pushed to the margins. This walking-tour side hustle is my way of fighting back: by making space for real stories, overlooked voices, and honest, funny, human history that deserves to be remembered.

This is more than a tour. It’s a walk through the city, the past, and the people who actually built it. Aunt Joanie would’ve loved it—and I think you will too.
